The writing is atmospheric without drowning in description, and has something of poetry about it. If you are a fan of the character-driven mystery, I enthusiastically recommend this book. Cotterill does a fine job of presenting a varied, nuanced and intriguing selection of characters, who divulge plenty of Lao and regional history as they march across the page.
